As you drive north on Highway 97 from Omak towards Riverside, you will see an odd looking dome-like structure up the hill to the west. This structure was built to be a fireproof home, and in 2015 it was put to the test. As the Limebelt fire raced over the hill towards his home, the owner took shelter and hoped that his home would serve its purpose. It did just that. Although the fire took out the house's electricity, the concrete structure withstood the flames and still stands today.
