Located on the outskirts of Pateros, Alta Lake State Park is a popular destination for outdoor recreation in the area. It offers many opportunities, such as camping, fishing, water sports, hiking and more. The Alta Lake area was heavily affected by the 2014 wildfires, losing numerous acres of forests and dozens of homes. Some brave residents fought the fire and saved their homes, but out of 72 homes in the area, 52 were destroyed in the Carlton Complex Fire. The popular campground at Alta Lake closed and didn't reopen until the following summer. Despite the tragedy, Alta Lake State Park is recovering and continues to be a go-to spot for adventurers in the area.
