Apple Acres Road is an alternative route to the city of Chelan, and it also takes drives right through the heart of the 2015 Chelan Complex Fire zone. Surprisingly, not many homes along this road were lost, but there were multiple orchards that were affected. Many lost fruit trees along the outer edges of the orchards where the fires crept in.
Ironically, this fire-scarred area was once used as a sort of ice box for local residents. The location of the valley and consistent shade from the sun along the slope of the valley provided an ideal place for storing chilled items.
